"" By: Steve Smith Mexico wants their food back…..
Hey Linda
You know how much I like to find new places to eat. I have to tell you about a new home town mexican restaurant…La Cocina
This isn’t one of those fast food taco shops you see on every corner! When you walk through the doors of La Cocina you will feel like you just stepped across the border into Mexico…..This little hole in the wall is the real deal. From the worn wooden tables and sombreros on the wall to the mexican radio station keeping the cooks happy in the kitchen and the mamacita making fresh tortillas by hand.
Have you ever tasted fresh hot hand made tortillas cooked the traditional way on a large iron plate over a wood fire? If you have then you know what I’m talking about…..
Then take those same hot off the plate tortillas and fill them with moist strip steak carne asada and cheese then smothered in a red sauce that seems could only come from the interior of Mexico. Cover it with fresh thin sliced lettuce, diced ripe red tomatoes and chopped black olives. Then add some sour cream, guacamole and a tortilla bowl of Mexican black beans on the side…….now that’s what I’m talking about!
This is combination of flavors you won’t soon forget……
How about fish tacos with “just out of the ocean” broiled swordfish and fresh sweet cabbage, add to these a white sauce so good you might think it’s illegal.
Good thing there’s no food police!
Oh you know how much like shrimp…..they have a Cabo Shrimp burrito that is pure magic. I can’t tell you what spices they’re using. It must be some ancient Mayan chef secret because they won’t tell me what it is….I can only ask you this… Have you ever tasted something so good that you cannot seem to get enough of it at one time?
Well it’s just like that after your first taste, you almost cannot stop eating.
La Cocina also has all the traditional items too….but it’s the ingredients that make the difference ....shredded beef from slow cooked brisket, none of that ground beef you get in fast food places. They use only chicken breast meat none of the other cheaper parts. Even the chips are made from the same tortillas you see being made right there…and the salsa is mucho bueno!!
If you have never been to Mexico, La Cocina will be as close as you can get to authentic south of the border food without actually using your frequent flyer miles or needing your passport. And if you have been there, La Cocina will be a refresher course on real Mexican food……reminded me of that place in Manzanillo we loved so much.
You owe it to yourself and your taste buds to check it out….heck let’s get together and both go. You won’t have to twist my arm much to get me go again!
Send me a text and let’s hook up, I’ll even buy the first round of Cadillac margaritas!
See you soon - Steve
